ExtendED Program

Extending Literacy and Numeracy with Depth, Rigor & Resilience

ExtendED is a pilot initiative designed to deepen student learning in English Language Arts and Math through rich, high-level tasks and meaningful academic challenges. Rather than focusing solely on curriculum coverage, ExtendED emphasizes:

  • Rigour in problem-solving and comprehension
  • Resilience in tackling complex tasks
  • Deep thinking that strengthens cross-curricular connections

Students in ExtendED will:

  • Tackle advanced literacy and numeracy challenges that promote fluency
  • Strengthen critical thinking and stamina through extended academic tasks
  • Make real-world connections between concepts, subjects, and ideas

This program is offered during regular scheduled programming and is led by experienced educators in a discussion-rich, collaborative setting. Participation is based on teacher identification of students who:

  • Demonstrate academic readiness
  • Show strong initiative and persistence
  • Consistently engage with content at a deeper level

Knowledge and Employability (K&E) Courses

Hands-On Learning for Real-World Success

Our K&E Program supports students who excel through practical, applied learning. These courses help build strong foundations in reading, writing, and math, while also preparing students for everyday life and future employment.

Program highlights:

  • Focus on literacy, numeracy, and essential life skills
  • Opportunities for hands-on exploration of trades and work experience
  • Encouragement of confidence, independence, and personal growth

K&E is designed to ensure students feel valued, capable, and ready, whether they pursue a trade, join the workforce, or continue their education.

COMPASS Program

Creating Opportunities for Meaningful Participation, Achievement, Success, and Self-Regulation

The COMPASS Program is a supportive, inclusive learning space for students in Grades 5–9 who benefit from additional structure, flexibility, and connection.

Built on the values of a compass—Navigating, Empowering, Supporting, and Welcoming—COMPASS ensures students are included and engaged in meaningful learning experiences.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Belonging & Inclusion: Encouraging peer relationships and participation in school life
  • Personalized Learning: Driven by IPPs, adaptive supports, and tools like ABLLS and AFLS
  • Social-Emotional Growth: Focused teaching in communication, regulation, and life skills
  • Collaborative Team Support: Educators, families, specialists, and EAs work together
  • Authentic Learning: Hands-on projects, community experiences, and creative expression

COMPASS empowers each student to grow academically, emotionally, and socially in a way that is right for them.
